Merdeka!!! Merdeka!!! Merdeka!!!

|
Merdeka's over, and it was a tad bit quiet this year wasn't it? Less fanfare and fireworks probably due to the double whammy of cost-cutting and the fear of A(H1N1) subdued the celebrations. But what was not shown on the outside, it was celebrated on the inside by many of most Malaysians I'm sure. As for me, well, hectic as usual with "the event" and busy delivering "bombs/summons". I was back in KL on Thursday, 27th Aug. until the 1st Sept., so here's a briefy on the days of Merdeka 2009.

Thursday, 27th August 2009.

Arrived LCCT airport and was immediately whisked away to Subang for my contractual obligations with a certain restaurant (hint: chicken rice). There’s no real contract in place of course, it’s just that every time I come back to KL, I always end up at this place one way or another. Thus, I’ve been “contracted” to this place. Can’t really complain coz the food is actually quite good…

Noon time, had to wait for my new cupboard to arrive. No probs on that as supplier was dead on time. Lovely.

By evening, went to meet up with SC to discuss on a certain performer for a certain event. Massive discussions ensued between me, SC and the performer until the wee hours of the morning. 3AM to be exact (actually there was more eating than discussing as we were at SS2 and simply just eat and eat and eat).

By that time, SC’s car which was park at her Subang office's basement car park was LOCKED, with roller-shutters dead shut all over. Massive panic erupted with SC, so had to ask a guard on opening the roller-shutters.
"Bolehkah encik tolong bukak pintu carpark?!!"

“Sorry ‘bang, pukul 6 pagi baru bukak.”

=.=”

“Tolonglah boss, bukak pintu saja la. Nanti pergi minum ok.

"Puasalah."

=.= """

All hope died on the spot.

It was 4AM and caught in between too early and too late to wait for 6AM, I ended up fetching SC back to Damansara Perdana instead. SC then had to bring along another fren the next day and drove 2 cars back to SC’s place. Talk about a logistics cock-up.

Friday, 28th August 2009.

Had to wait for another furniture to arrive, nothing to do but to rot at home until the lorry appears. All afternoon wasted. Haihz.

By night, SL was free from the shackles of work and ended up in Pyramid for dinner at Popeyes. Yes, Popeyes. Tempted by something that we haven’t tried, and thus ordered the below:

The fried chicken was just so-so lah. Spicier then the other fried chicken offerings out there, but really, it’s nothing to shout about. The taste is slightly different from the other fried chicken offerings out there, but nothing unique. But that biscuit on the side however was a surprise as it was shockingly good for a pathetic looking piece of side…

This fish burger was extraordinary ordinary. Nothing to go ga-ga over whatsoever. Was just abit surprised at the size of the offering though, as it will fill you up pretty darn good. Be warned of massive fish breath post finishing of dish.

Our healthy lifestyle continued by going straight for a movie, relaxing our tummies after a fatty round of fast food. Go large on life, I always say, the McD way. The movie was ‘Up’, and being a Pixar film, Pixar delivers what Pixar does best with sugar-coated sweetness of touching stories mixed with innocent jester that guarantees to satisfy the most lucrative demographic in the world, i.e. families. Overall, 8 out 10 if you are into 3-D cartoons/Pixar fare, or just 6 out of 10 if you prefer Wolverine to Shrek.

Saturday, 29th August 2009.

You know what, I have completely no clue on what I did on this day. I remember going for a swim at my friends apartment, had a simple dinner and then gone out with Z to Plaza TTDI for the Man Utd Vs. Arsenal match. Had a few beers, place a 10 bucks bet on Arsenal to win (yes, betted on Arsenal to win. Considering Arsenal was kicking massive ass from the previous matches and Man Utd lost to lowly Burnley of all teams, Arsenal was a safe bet. How happily wrong I was. Coz I’m actually a Man Utd fan hahaha).

We found a ‘Ramly’ burger stall and just had to eat an ‘ayam special’ with telur. My "go large on life" motto never ceases to leave me. After some chit-chat, and bla bla blas, went home at 5am.

Sunday, 30th August 2009.

Woke up late as hell. Bummed around the house. Ran around naked shouting “De Nazi’s are comminggg!!!”

Had a quick yamca session with a buddy from Labuan, and of course, gave out more summons. He’s bringing his gf along. First time can see his gf!!!

Night time, no large groups of agent H1N1 please (i.e big masses of peeps with potential H1N1 at clubs, fireworks shows, etc), so we headed to a slightly secluded restaurant for our Merdeka dinner. It was 'Han Woo Ri' @ Taipan area and In attendance? Me, SL, TK and V. OMG. V. Well what to do, old friends need to maintain some contact right. But I noticed all night long, V and TK never spoke at all!!! C’mon lah…Kiss and makeup ya?

Things we ordered:

Spicy BBQ Sliced Pork. Tastes alot like satay. Satay more cheaper. beh.

But the service is pretty good (as usual with Korean BBQ place in general). They cut, flip, change the metal plate very very regularly. OHhh speaking of service, when you leave the place, ALL the waiters will line-up and in synchronized fashion shouted "anyonghee kahshipsheeyo!!!!!" (or goodbye or something to that effect laaa) haha. Sigh, made me feel soooooo important!!!! Like VIP!!!! I don't mind to come again just to experience that again haha. Now that's sales tactics right?

Doooooone, yummy yummy. This is the usual sliced pork marinated in BBQ sauce. Not the best BBQ pork I've tasted but good nonetheless.

There's so many sides, I've actually lost count. I noticed kimchi, tofu, pickled asparagus, dried seaweed, sliced eggs etc etc etc. And it's unlimited. Free re-fills. The best.

The sauces didn't lose out either. Go dip-crazy!!

But this fried rice however, leaves much to be desired. No taste :( Still prefer Chinese fried rice muuuuch better. Btw, noticed Mickey Mouse?

Dessert drink was on the house. What was it already ah? I forgot. Soya rice or something funky like that haha. Tasted sweet. A good parting drink.

After the dinner has ended, V went her to her separate way while the rest met up with the usual gang at Station 1. Yup, Station 1. Of all places. Well better than another Kopitiam lah (I’m starting to feel intruded by these kopitiams mushrooming all over the place. Now’s there’s Papa Rich, what’s next Mama Poor? I feel we are forced to live with these establishments!!). Highlight of the night? TK going French over his uncle-esque Carlsberg Gold. 0.5% more alcohol!! Phoo-yooh!!! But tastes just the same lah (never fancied beer anyway). Here’s TK almost going orgasmic with a bottle…

"Bottles are my best friend. It offers me pleasures like no other...."

After all the gang’s fanfare has ended, I’ve sent SL home while I dropped by P & S’s house for some late night BBQ session (2AM to be exact, and BBQ indoors. Ohhh the fumes, the fumes. Thank God there’s no fire alarm, or the neighbors will be pissed). Chit-chatted and bla bla bla until 4AM.

Monday, 1st September 2009.

All these late nights were taking a toll on me as I was completely crashed for the day. Wanted to sleep so badly. But mum and dad shook me up like a hurricane for breakfast. Haihzz. There’s a nice Hainanese shop serving delicious ‘Mee Pok’ in SS2 they said. Fair enough, good food conquers all bad troubles, I always think. So off we go, and arrived at the shop to find that is it aptly named ‘Hainanese Taste’. How original!!

Here’s my breakie for the day:

Mee Pok with minced beef. Very tasty and quite spicy!!! Finally there’s an outlet for good Mee Pok around PJ…

Bored with the usual Old Town/Uncle Lim/Papa Rich kaya bread? Dread no more, here’s a excellent substitute. The bun is slightly crunchy on the outside but tender soft inside, and the kaya, Mmmmmm, perfect. I’m going back to this place just for the buns!!

After breakie, headed off to Mid Valley for our retail therapy. With no more cash to splash, window shopping was it. Dusk soon came and for dinner time at the Gardens, dropped by the ever-popular 'Fong Lye' Taiwanese joint for some grub:

The Tea Smoked Duck with Noodle. A weeeee bit expensive at RM15.80. But the duck portion is quite large to be fair, fit for 2 pax if you ask me (considering this as a noodle dish, not rice) and the smokey taste is very evident. The noodle's soup base is quite good too. Quite recommended.

One of their signature dishes, the (obviously) titled Taiwanese Burger!!! Ehhh, so where's the burger? THAT's the burger. Either the Taiwanese has a wicked sense of humor on what is called a burger, this is actually one heck of an original culinary concuction. There are many, many variants of a Taiwanese Burger, but generally it encompasses the skin similar to those found in 'Char Siew Pau' and it wraps in slabs of meat (usually pork belly, yuuum) and hints of some veggies. A must try if you haven't tried before!! Give it a kiss!!! MUACKKSS!!!

Another signature dish, the Sweet Potato Balls (but not really sure this is an authentic Taiwanese dish, coz China will no doubt claim property to this as well as it's easily found in chinese areas, and even Petaling Street has a stall that sells very very good potato balls). This is ever popular among the patrons in 'Fong Lye' as almost every tables ordered this. At RM5.30, you get I think 10 balls. A bit pricey, but hey, it's at the Gardens. Expected lah.

And with that, another Merdeka weekend drew to a close. It is one of the quieter Merdeka celebrations, but it was one of the most filling. My stomach’s still digesting the food as I write this. ***Bruurrp***

Ahhhh.....The morning is rainy again, no mood to work yet again, and thus my blog comes a-calling!! Massive windy rains last nite by the way, dustbins and garbage strewned all over, windows smashed from flying debris, tents akimbo, signboards awry, but enough of my room already, here's some updates on weeks past....

No, didn't go woody horse-riding, it's actually the front of Ming Room @ Bangsar Shopping Center. Come, come, follow me and I'll shall you what's on offer...

Promo promo promo: Buy 1 dimsum dish and free another @ Ming Room, BSC. This one is the pomfret, 2 bowls of it for only RM8. And yes, it is delicious!! It's so good, I had to order 2 bowls...

'Chee Cheong Fun' warpped in 'Yau Char Kuai'. One of my mostest favouritest dishes for Dim Sim. Crunchy crunchy 'Yau Char Kuai', again had to order 2...Btw, that chilli concoction is to die forrrr.

Don't remember what this was, but it's something fried tinged with dashes of mayonise. Caterpillar perhaps? Maybe not in a place like Bangsar. But it was yummy yummy yummy nonetheless.

Of course, what is Dim Sum without the 'Siew Mai' and 'Har Kao'. But to be honest, these dishes here wasn't that good. I've had much better someplace else. Quite a shock that this was just so-so but the rest of the not-so-popular dishes was so good.

But enough of Dim Sum. Time to get some flower-power going. And no, nobody gave that flower to me unfortunately (and contrary to popular belief, guys DO appreciate getting flowers too y'know. Sounds completely weird, but besides the usual stuff that gals give guys, i.e. CDs, ties, shirts etc., some cool flowers are a new and modern way to go. Cool flowers? Purple roses rock). But enough of my feminine side, here's me @ Meatworks, Solaris Damansara for some meaty action (steaks and all, not call girls).

The T-Bone @ Meatworks, Solaris Damansara: Simple it may seem, but its surprising yummy. Good place for your meat fetishes...I guarantee it.

The Rib-Eye @ Meatworks, Solaris Damansara: Succulent and tender meat made to perfection. I'm saying this not because they gave me a free meal or anything, but this place is GOOD. I bumped into this place at Solaris when Tenji was fully-booked, and still am glad Tenji was fully-booked.

Flower Power!!! Nothing like a cuppa hot warm tea to wash down the meat grease. Ok that sounds yucky but it's true...

And on the same night, joined some frens for some K-Session @ Red-Box, Sunway (now you guys know why I was so late. But fret not, the Meatworks was for a good cause, i.e. to celebrate SL's achievement is some academic certification, so I have my alibi!!)

...and when you take off the top from the mike, it becomes a Lightsaber!!! Luke, I AM YOUR FATHER!!! The Force is indeed all around us.

*Wooot Wooot!!!!*

And that's all for now lah. More updates on my next post. Cioz!!

Gone Gardening...

I’ve been passing by the 'Garden Café' in 1 Utama for so many times, and yet I didn’t get the chance to try it out. Well, during the weekend when me, SL and TK were in 1 Utama catching a movie, the chance finally came (and after walking around 1U new wing for God knows how long thinking of what to eat, trying to avoid the usual Nando’s, McD’s etc).

On the outside the place looks wonderful, nice concept and fresh. But once seated, I dunno, I got abit uncomfortable. Probably all those fake plastic flowery deco still isn’t as authentic as I thought. I always liked a cozy restaurant to dine, with lights down low and seats comfortable, y’know? But for this place…well…it’s quite the opposite. The lights are way bright (imitating sun light perhaps?), the seats are too up-tight and the place is too quiet. I mean, where’s the birds and the bees? Probably I had too high expectations…

As for the food? Well…we had this for dinner:

Garden Fish & Chips ordered by TK. Just original isn't it, TK?

Congee ordered by SL. At least this one had plenty of sides to munch on.

Garden Black Pepper Chicken Chop ordered by me. Nothing to shout about, but still 'boleh tahan' lah. But, it's hard to wrong with black pepper dishes isn't it?

As for the drinks, I had the Camomile tea. I think this place is more suited to tea/coffee drinking and than the food.

Iced Honey Lemon. Nice touch with the flower. But it's just plastic. Beh.

Plastic flowers and little garden ornaments are tastefully placed around the place. But if you look closely...everything you see has a price tag. Potong steam ahhhhh....

Kudos to them for having someone playing the piano once in a while for the diners.

So overall, is it worth it? Well, to be honest it's just an ideal place for photo-taking and provides a great opportunity to post nice food photos on everyone's own blog. Food wise, it's nothing special, just ordinary. I wouldn't be making reservations at this place any time soon though...

KL Weekend Break: 3rd ~ 6th April, 2009

Day 2: 4th April, '09.

It has been so long since I’ve met up with the old friends from my ex-company. I honestly forgot when was our last meeting…was it at KLCC? I only remember meeting SC at the Curve with SL last year. It has been way too long, and since I’m coming back for a long weekend, I guess it’s time to meet up again.

We were very close last time and got along very well with B, K, SC, and a few others. Now with our new jobs and new commitments, we somewhat drifted apart a little. But we always try to stay as close as possible, no matter what. We used to work together at some company selling electronic stuff, like projectors, LCDs, Plasma, etc. At the time I was there, the company was quite established, having a showroom in Mid-Valley and a grand showroom in KLCC. But, maybe due to mis-management, it was downhill from there. Anyway, after work we would go out for dinners in Mid-Valley (we are based in MV) and watch movies almost every Wednesday (only RM6!!), went together for trips and just basically played around in the office (we just graduated then, so working was not taken so seriously, just waiting for that BIG company to join later!! But that’s just me anyway…). For that one year in that period of my life, it had many of the most memorable moments I’ve ever experienced.

As many were in the Sunway area, we met up at Pyramid and went to ‘Bubba Gump’ for dinner (we were supposed to go to Yaki-Yaki Japanese Buffet!!! Aaaarrghhh!!!) But I’ve never tried ‘Bubba’ so it’s worth a shot. ‘Bubba Gump’ sounds very familiar right, that’s because it’s a spin-off from that old Tom Hanks movie ‘Forrest Gump’. ‘Bubba Gump’ is actually the shrimp company that Forrest Gump set up after the movie, and because of its tries with the movie, memorabilia are extensively displayed around the restaurant, i.e. a dress worn by Jenny, Forrest’s girlfriend in the movie, army hardhats, signed posters, etc (but are they original? The waiters claim it is…hhhmmm…). Good for taking photos with tho!!!

But all in all, the ambiance is fun, the service is great and the most importantly, the food is…well…somewhat limited in variety, but it is still good nonetheless. Hence its name ‘Bubba Gump Shrimp & Co’, its main offering is…well…shrimp (i.e. prawns, to the uninitiated). Fried shrimp, fresh shrimp, shrimp this and shrimp that, you name it and most probably they got it…probably. But besides that, they got other food like steaks, pasta etc. But when the place’s name is shouting out Shrimp, you just have to try its shrimp right? All in all, a fun place for innocent fun birthdays, gatherings and all that. Ambiance is nice, kinda pricey (equivalent to TGI and Chili’s) and the service is top-notch. Why? Just view the pictures to find out ;)

Before going for dinner, we went house-visiting at B's new home!!! Thanks for inviting us in and thanks for the 'grape champagne'...it was...sweet haha.

FoOooOoD!!! It's the 'Shrimper's Heaven' @ Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., combo of 4 shrimps variety in their menu...

Here's a close-up...tempting isn't it?

The 'Bourbon Street Baramundi'...quite tasty, but got small bones..kids beware!!

The ' Choco Chip Cookie' dessert...Abit toooo sweet...but still yummy nonetheless!!!

Shopping at their little stall? No, just tumpang their glamour for a photo hahah..

Ah K cannot tahan all these photo-taking until have to call police already...so bad...

And finally...chocolates, so me? AwwWwwWwwwW....

KL Weekend Break (Again!!) from 19th Sept ~ 21st Sept, '08

|
As quick as i had returned to Labuan, I was back in KL again from the 19th Sept until the 21st Sept. At first I thought it would be fun to return to good ol' KL so soon after the long merdeka break and escape my daily monotony of work. But sadly, it was not to be as the workload was piling up faster than me with a toiletbowl and some bad chilies form yesterday's dinner. The few days before my flight back was superly stressed and was so rushing, I actually brought back that rushing feeling back to KL. Throughout the KL weekend I was so tense, I just couldn't relax. My mind could not get out of work even if I wanted to. I was replying my office emails at home at 12am, imagine that. And when I did manage to forget about work, some office idiot calls, spoiling my relaxing mood. Even my boss SMSed me if I could attend to some work. I replied back to him that I have "limited access to internet connectivity" (even though we are bathed in Wi-Fi nowadays). He didn't reply me after that. Sorry boss!!!

And with that stressy feeling, I still had to try and enjoy what I paid for to AirAsia (RM150 Labuan to KL, round-trip. It's a good deal trust me). Here's what unfolded in those tensed-up days in KL:

Friday, 19th September 2008.

Meet up with Bryan at KLCC and got to know him through MSN a while ago. He has this high-pitched laugh I can never forget. He says he sings fantastically well at the karaoke, and I was Sooooooo tempted to let him prove my doubts right. But sadly, he said he "has a slight cough now" and could not sing properly. Coincidence or an excuse??!! My ISA-senses are tingling, and I'm on to you Bryan!!! Anyway, we had a super late lunch at 'Kim Gary Beyond' at Avenue K (ate at 3:30pm 'cause I was late from a jam. My fault la, sorry la!!) But before we can order, some sales girl came over and introduced the 'Kim Gary' membership card to us. I was not interested at all but Bryan was so easily fooled. Idiot!!! But it provided good vouchers when signing up for the card. For example, 50% off on total bill on your birthday (max 4 person i think? Can't remember), RM5 voucher that can be used anytime, some free burger and drinks vouchers and also 10% off on everything and anytime when you eat at Kim Gary. The cost for the card? RM15 only. A good deal if you love 'Kim Gary'...

We just chitchatted and hang around KLCC (tried on shirts and stuff at 'Esprit' even though we have no money to buy haha) and did some stuff until 6pm. He had an appointment with another friend, and me too with SL. We went to the 'Isetan Member's Day' sale, and the crowd was super mad. It's limited to members only but the crowd was so huge, security people was all over Isetan (and it was still during working hours!!!). I was so tempted to buy a 'Seed' shirt (the design had a black strip at the middle and was all the way from top to bottom, looked like a tie) but I really wanted to buy jeans so I passed on it. In the end, I only bought 'Haagen Dazs' ice-cream (buy 2 tubs at RM30 and free 1 tub). All in all, clothing and grocery stuff was pretty cheap.

Later went for dinner and went back to SL's place to mess about with the computer. SL just got a brand spankin' new computer from HP, 'Intel Core 2 Duo' and all that heavy-duty PC stuff inside. But what I was super-duper-freakinliciously jealous was it's 24-inch HP LCD monitor!!! IT'S BLARDY HUGE AND SUPER CLEAR!!!! AAARRRGHHHHH!!! I WANT, I WANT!!!! Siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. But we couldn't really test the monitor cause the movies we downloaded (shhhhh!! Illegal leh) can't play. Oh well, luckily I did copy a few movies when I was in Labuan so I can bring it over the next day lah...

Saturday, 20th September 2008.

The movies I copied for SL worked perfectly fine on the 24 inch LCD monitor and damn, the movies do look mighty perfect. Sighhhhhhhhhhh. It's like a cinema right at hooome. Its better than cinema I think coz the images on the LCD is super clear and bright. "Soooooooo lucky" i.e. 'Toyota Vios' advertisement haha. Later we went to Pavillion to continue my jeans hunting session and FINALLY found one that I like in 'Pull and Bear'. But at that time when I tried it on, the size didn't fit so I didn't buy =.= Saaaaaaad.....I'm doomed to failure with my jeans hunting mission.

Hungry and dissappointed, we went for lunch and ended up at 'Dain Ti Hill' on the top floor, next to 'TGI Friday's'. From the outside the place looks very impressive with its fusion of traditional chinese and western decor. But the food...oh God, the food is not good at all. This is another case of the 'The Apartment' at The Curve whereby its all about the looks and no substance on the food. Even the menu is limited in variety that serves plain chinese dishes (sweet and sour chicken, kailan, those stuff lah). We had to search for a full 10 minutes before we decided on what to order. SL had the 'Beef Rice' which was superly bad (too dry and tasteless) and I went adventurusly for the 'Emperor's Roll' that had baked rice with prawns, mango, cheese and mayo. Maybe I was overly adventurerous as the dish sucked big time. The rice is rolled into a style that is exactly like a sushi roll, but tastes totally not like sushi. It was just horrendous. It was served in 2 rolls, but even with my empty stomach that is commonly described as a 'trash can' because anything also can go in one, I only managed to eat 1 roll. It was that bad. And the drink didn't help either. I had the 'Honey Vinegar' (yes, vineger. SL forced me) for my drink and it really didn't help. For those 3 items, it was RM70, can you believe it??!! Luckily I think 'Citibank' was having a promo and I got 50% knocked off from my bill. But even at RM35, I still found it very expensive and not worth anything AT ALL. Definately NOT recommeneded. Here's the stuff to AVOID:

Emperor's Roll: Baked Rice Roll Topped with Mango: Looks like sushi, but not sushi. After eating this, I still don't know what t his is. A freaky creation. Terrible.

Beef Rice: Too dry and tasteless. Economy rice at any coffee shop tastes better than this.

Honey Vinegar Drink: Thank God for the Honey, honey.

Not satisfied with the food for the day, we ventured to other places around Pavillion (while shopping for jeans, I tried everything from 'Guess' to 'Levi''s' to 'Calvin Klein' and still no luck as I still like Pull and Bear). We ended up in a dimsim place at the top floor called 'Lijin Chinese Fusion Cuisine'. It had 30% off for all dimsum after 2pm, so what the heck, dimsum it was. And after ordering the 'Shanghai Siew Long Pao', the 'Har Gao', 'Siew Mai' and many more, I have to say it was YUMMY. I think this place is good, we can even see customers walking in and placing orders to 'tapau' and arranging those big chinese dinners for important occasions. So something must be right here. In the end, for the amount of food we ordered, we paid RM50 for dimsum that could have cost the same amount at those outside streetside places. A good deal and a good meal, that's super thumbs up in my book anyday!!!

Dinner time, we headed to Desa Sri Hartamas (I couldn't stop eating!!! Maybe because of the stress?? Haha) to celebrate Prasad's belated birthday. Big old Prasad is a married man now (and his wifey and friends treated him a 30-minute plane flying lesson at Subang Airport by an instructor. What a super cool present!!) We went to an Indian place called 'Saffron' (next to Aunty Nat) and the it serves very delicious Indian cuisine. Very yummy even though I don't like Indian food much. The interior of the place looks very very simple, but if you see properly at the patrons that eat there, there's a good blend of locals of all ethnic origin, foreigners and datuks/datins with bug cars parks outside the restaurant. In fact, 'Saffron' was voted the best restaurant a few times by some major newspaper before. So, soemthing must be right, correct? It's worth a try even though you might not fancy Indian cuisine and it's also good place to introduce yourself to the spicy side of food!!!

As Prasad was not a clubbing kaki or anything like that, we went into his car and ronda-ronda Sri Hartamas area to look for things to do. First thing came to mind was to play pool at 'Breakers', but we were so sure it was full to the max so we headed off to Bangsar to look for a place that serves "the best alchoholic coffee in town", as according to V. I forgot the name but it was unfortunately closed so we ended up at 'The Social" at Bangsar and had a few drinks there. Drank and talked-cock until TK came over. But by then, our hands were itchy with pool table sickness (Bangsar's pool places were full) so we headed back to 'Breakers' at Sri Hartamas haha. Got a table and my ass was properly whipped by Prasad and TK. I'm sooooooo out of touch with pool sigghhhh...Ever since I went over to Labuan...ever since then....my silky touch of the que is now gine. Sighhhhh....

Sunday, 21st September 2008.

Woke up late and had lunch with SL & TK at 'Kar Heong Chicken Rice'. This place is so delicious I just have to eat it eveytime I come back home to KL haha. It's like I've signed an invisible contract that stipulates that I must eat at this place or else my ass will be properly sued by Karpal Singh. A new branch opened in Kota Damansara and I heard the boss went over there already to manage the place. So to all those Kota Damansara folks, do try out this place, it's chicken rice that is closest to Ipoh's chicken rice that I've ever tasted. Honestly.

As the day was a slow and rainy one, we then headed off to 'Beans' at SS15 for some 'tong sui'. Not the best palce for 'tong sui' but at least there's a place that serves it whenever we feel like having it. We chit-chatted about stuff and mainly on the Langkawi trip (which I have a funny feeling is doomed to failure. Sighhh).

It was getting late and I wanted to go to 1 Utama's 'Pull and Bear' store to look at the jeans I saw yesterday and see if there's my size available...and there was none. But when I tried the same size I tried yesterday, it FITTED!!! It's abit loose at the waist but with a belt, it actually fitted very nicely. Wowwww. I can't believe it. I've gained so much weight in 1 day?? But it fitted and that's all I wanted to know haha so I finally bought my jeans after so many months of searching!!! Yaaaaayyyy!!! The cost? RM250. Okla for jeans, 'Levi's' also around that price but I'm soooo bored with Levi's. Furthermore we change jeans after many years right...? So RM250 is considered a long-term investment then ;P

Finally felt satisfied after so many days of tension and stress, we headed back to Sunway Pyramid's 'TGI Friday's' to celebate Majidah's birthday. I have to admit, there was no planning for this event whatsoever (sorry Maj hahahaha). I was just throwing around ideas on where to eat for the past few days with Ah Nei and all (it was down to either 'Delicious' at Bangsar, 'Wendy's Bristro' at Sunway or 'TGI Fridays'. In the end it was Fridays cause everyone will be familiar with Pyramid). I tried calling to make reservations because for sure it will be super-duper-packed due to the buka puasa session, but when I called some guy said "we don't do reservations at this peak time, however if you walk-in I'm sure there will be a place". Fine, I didn't want to argue with him so I planned on walking-in, and when I walked-in it was super-packed. Thank you Mr. Anonymous TGI Fridays man. There was a waiting list and we were 4th on the list. And that forced Maj to buka puasa somewhere else. Oooopppps, thousand apologies ya. But she came back to join me, SL, Ah Nei, and Paul. I noticed that this branch in Pyramid is abit too serious as the waiters were all too cool and non-communicating. Other 'TGI Fridays' branches have this fun and jovial mood to them (especially at The Curve) but this one is just...cold. Even though I still noticed the staff did sing the usual birthday songs to the guests (and also force the birthday boy/girl to STAND ON A CHAIR. Talking about asking for attention), it was not all right at Sunway's branch with the staff. But it's not all doom and gloom: it had this huge & super-cool Bruce Lee action figure right next to our table and the food was not bad either, check it out:

Haiyaaaaa!!!! Abs that will kick @SS!!!

Mac & Chez as appetizer: If you like cheese and fried stuff, you're gonna LOVE this!!!

JD Burger: A thick chuck of beef with generous slices of bacon and a dash of TGI's signature JD sauce on the side. With chips of course. Absolutely perfect for burger lovers.

JD Chicken: El Classico. Chicken with the distinctively tasty JD sauce with a plop of whipped potatoes. Lovely. If you don't know what to order at TGI's, you can start off with this.

Sizzling Chicken & Shrimp: Garlic-marinated chicken breast and plump shrimp tossed with zesty roma tomato-basil salsa. Served with onions and peppers and our cheddar cheese mashed potatoes on a sizzling platter of melted Colby and Jack cheeses. Quoted from TGI Friday's website. Ha!!! Unfortunately, this dish was not served sizzling, which was a down-side.

Diablo Pasta: Tender, seasoned chicken and shrimp sautéed in olive oil, then blended in a fiery tomato Diablo sauce with wine. Served on linguine pasta with freshly-grated Parmesan cheese. Not sure how it tasted like as Ah Nei Nei ordered this. Any comments Nei Nei?

After the dinner it was already getting late and Pyramid was closing. So we all headed over to SS15's 'Canai & Such' to finally have a proper discussing on our Langkawi trip in December. Paul even brought with him a lappy for research and make bookings if need to. But the lappy ran out of power mid way through =.= Nice one Pauuuuuuul. At the same time I also handed over to Ah Nei her 2 cartons of 'Marlboro Reds' ciggies that she asked me to buy in Labuan (RM65 for 1 carton. Cheap? Not really, last month it was just RM55. Too bad Nei Nei. Oh and btw, don't come find me if you die from the ciggies ya, you asked me to buy one!!!). Oh, that night it was also super cold and with the wind blowing, it was like drinking 'Coffee Bean' at Genting. So cool haha. Anyway, around 12am plus plus we adjourned home. But already we got to know the rough price of Langkawi, a booking is imminent (and at the time of posting this blog, 4 peeps made bookings already which are me, TK, Paul and Maj. Nei Nei and Theva is also on the way I heard). So, I think this Langkawi trip might just be a blast after all...until then, finger's crossed.

So my trips are piling up already. Oct will be in 'Kota Kinabalu', Dec will be 'Langkawi', and Feb will be the 'Hong Kong/HK Disneyland (hopefully)/Shenzen/Macau' trip. And that's not all. 'Penang' is also target (althought still early stages of planning) and with my family will be 'Guilin' in China. And is 'Kuching' for the World Music Festival really on...? God help my pockets, God bless my wallet....
